A game designer salary of $85k is a figure of speech for a video game designer, with many of the highest paid jobs in the video game industry.
In fact, a video games industry survey released in January 2017 by Eurogamer estimated that game designers earn about $140k per year.
Salary figures for video game developers are notoriously difficult to pin down and often vary wildly.
According to the latest figures from salary.com, the average salary for a game developer is $82,906 a year.
However, as the data shows, some positions are even more lucrative.
“We were looking at a number of video game designers’ salary figures and we thought $85m is probably pretty close to the ballpark,” the lead programmer for the recently released Dishonored 2, who asked to remain anonymous, told TechRadar.
“I think that’s probably the range we can realistically work with.”
